The Entrance
The Entrance contains several important bird sites: Picnic Point Reserve, Karagi Point and Terilbah Reserve.
Picnic Point is on the south western side of the Entrance. It offers an excellent view of the sandbanks that lie just off shore. During the summer migrant waders often roost here.
Karagi Point is the sand bar on the northern entrance to the lake. The sand bar has been used by Little Terns and Red-capped Plovers as a nesting site (not since 2012). The point is still a roosting site for several tern species including Caspian Terns, Little Terns and Crested Terns. Other waders can often be seen feeding in the low areas of the channel.
Terilbah Reserve is on the north western side of the Entrance and mainly consists of open grassed areas. Like Picnic Point, waders can often been seen roosting on the sandbanks just offshore. The garden area can sometimes be good for honeyeaters, especially when the cultivated native plants are in flower.
Birds seen: Little Tern, Caspian Tern, Crested Tern, Australian Pelican, Bar-tailed Godwit, Red-capped Plover, SanderlingGreat Cormorant, Little Black Cormorant, Little Wattlebird, Rainbow Lorikeet, Black-faced Cuckoo-shrike,
Reliable for: Little tern, Caspian Tern, Cormorants, Pelican.
