If you use a long lens and want to reduce the instances of poor quality images caused by camera shake/vibration try the following recommendations:

1. Rest one hand on the lens directly above the tripod mount.
2. Press your face firmly against the body of the camera, or better still use an eye cup and press your eye against it.
3. Do not jerk the shutter button, but rather smoothly roll your finger over it for firing.
4. If using one of the modern lenses with VR or IS, ensure the lens is set correctly for tripod use.
5. Use a fast shutter speed. At least match your lens focal length with your shutter speed ie. 500mm lens = 1/500 shutter speed. You can get away with a slower speed if you have either IS/VR.
