21 December 2008 Brymair is a working cattle property in the Northern part of the Capertee Valley (20kms north of Glen Alice) that offers accommodation and bird habitat. The accommodation is in the form of a 4 bedroom rustic cottage (shearers quarters). It has a central lounge with an open fire and a modern bathroom. Sleeps 8, with 3 double and two single beds. There are some wooded areas on the property, however the bulk of the property is grassland. The owner was very helpful and pointed out some nearby public access areas also suitable for birding. This is the second property listed on Carol Probet's Blue Mountains and Capertee Vly web site, The birds seen on the property last week were: Wedge-tailed Eagle Plum-headed Finch Black-faced Cuckoo-shrike Eastern Rosella common Yellow Thornbill common Yellow-rumped Thornbill common Stubble Quail - common Rufous Songlark common Grey Fantail common Australasian Pipit common Rufous Whistler common Varied Sittella Channel-billed Cuckoo Red-rumped Parrot common Olive-backed Oriole Jacky Winter common Plus the usual suspects..... The farmer also mentioned that Bee-eaters had been nesting (burrows) on the property for the last few years (November) It turned out to be a rushed visit, so I probably spent no more that a few hours looking around. I will be returning.
